First experience is always exciting and somehow difficult. Studying in an international environment is my first experience. I decided to study the MA International Tourism Management at University of Greenwich as one of my interesting subjects .In addition, I have some background from this field while obtaining a tour guide certificate in Iran. My passion for travelling and knowing different cultures motivated me to continue studies in tourism. I would like to continue my studies in PhD degree and wish to teach tourism subjects in a university in the future.
This is my first blog which is created for my dissertation topic: How cultural tourism is perceived in Iran: focusing on festival and event tourism in Iran.
The topic may change but the concept is the same. I would like to analyse all existent festivals and events in Iran, potentials, issues and explain how they affect tourism industry in positive way, how we can maintain the current festivals and events and how we can survive some traditional festivals and events...
Hope I enjoy my learning journey...
Hi my love,
ReplyDeleteI am really impressed by your blog. Your blog is colourful. I like your picture as well. Regarding your topic, I am looking forward to reading your dissertation. I am sure, it would be an out-standing dissertation. As there are a lot of events and festivals in Iran, it might be better to focus on specified events and festivals.
I am so proud of you.
I love you,
All the best,
Hamed
My dearest Mojgan,

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. I need your kind comments for my progress ...If you have any suggestion or comment please let me know.
Hello Mojgan,
ReplyDeleteI agreee that your topic is really interesting and I'm as well looking forward to reading your dissertation one day.
You state that you would like to find out how cultural tourism is perceived in Iran. Are you going to analyse the perception of all stakeholers (e.g. society, employees, customers etc) or focus on one specific group such as politicians or representatives from the tourism industry?
Good luck,
Sara
Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. I like to analyse more stakeholders ( Local people , society, customers&.)
and their role to improve festival and events tourism in Iran.
Hi Mojgan,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all let me congratulate you for your blog ☺ !
The topic research for your dissertation is quite interesting and definitely I’m looking forward to follow you in your learning journey through the world of Iran Festivals and Events.
In my opinion, it might be interesting if you analyse how the different communities celebrate the Iran Festivals and what kind of events which community has that differentiate one from each other in terms in terms of multicultural influences, themes, culture and religions.
Your topic is so vast that I am quite sure that you will come with interest research conclusions and you will be successful as well ☺.
Big Kiss

After 3 days trip to Iran, I just came back and I noticed Jithu is my supervisor. As he is familiar with tourism industry in Iran, I think his comments will be helpful for my dissertation development.During my short trip I referred to some Iranology foundations in Iran . I found some references but not in English and some of them were not up-dated.I should try Iranology organisations in the UK as well...
ReplyDeleteI should get an appointment with my supervisor to discuss about my topic, Of course his comments and advices will be helpful. Although I am really busy with other assignments, I think about my dissertation as well, a lot of things to do...
ReplyDeleteAfter an appointment with Jithu, I noticed I should define more specific topic for my dissertation. for example ''the role of traditional festival in destination development''
ReplyDeleteas festivals and event are categorised in 3 groups: Mega event like Olympic Games,Hall mark such film or music festival, the last one which I tend to focus on it is community -based(Local) festivals,So I should be more specific for my topic.
For the time being what I exactly need is more reading and studying.
I am really busy with my assignments.I can not focus on my dissertation topic.Time is running quickly....
ReplyDeleteAfter few days struggling with assignments I should be back to my blog and have more focus on my research proposal. It may be late but It should start...
ReplyDelete''The role of traditional festival in tourism destination development: through case study in Iran(i.e Kashan)
Research proposal paper focusing on traditional festivals highlights the role of traditional festivals as cultural aspects to develop tourism destination through case study in Iran and particular city of Kashan.
The purpose of research is to analyse some of traditional festivals in Iran with reviewing all existent issues and possible potentials and then conduct how they can used as tourism attraction to develop tourism industry in Iran.
I have long journey but enjoyable...
Festivals...
ReplyDeleteMacMillan dictionary (2011) defines festivals as ̎ series of performances of films, plays, music or dancing that is usually organised in the same place at the same time each year ̎. They may be different in size, level and impact but they are common in one thing which is all of them occurring in limited duration.
Social, economic, tourism ,political and cultural aspects of festivals can be analysed and reviewed in positive and negative views.
The Qualitative Research Process
ReplyDelete1- Hypothesise and conceptualisation
2- Gathering related information and data
3- Analyse of data
4- Reach a result ( Veal,1997)
Related Methods:
In-depth interview: It is longer than normal interview to review the questions deeply. Sometimes need to interview more than once. In –depth interview can be performed when the collected information from each interview is different or the subject of the research is few. The required instrument to do in-depth interview is check list of the subjects which does not need to be formal as questionnaires format.
Group interviews: It is usually used for group with 5-12 members who may know each other or not. The researcher mange the group discussion and get result by recording and provide a summary. It seems that this method does not work for this research properly due to destination situations.
Participant observation: Actually, the researcher is a member of participant and observes the process. The point of view of other participant can be involved in the process to analysis different issues and problems. The main problem to be faced in this method is recording the information, as take note or tape –recorder may be impossible to record observed issue or problem.
Research Philosophy: Positivism
Research approach: Partly deductive ,partly inductive
Research Strategy: Case study
Data collection methods:
Interview
Observation
Secondary data
Now, I am in the position to start my dissertation seriously. This research will be completed by travel to Kashan during May and I hope have a chance to participate in flowers and rose water festivals in Kashan.
My learning journey continues...
